NANCY E GATTON  February 24, 1841-January 9, 1923
"Mother"
“Asleep in Jesus.”

Nancy Emerline (Emaline) McKee was born February 24, 1841. She married Joseph W[illiam?] Gatton on August 28, 1858 in Wilson Co, TN. She died January 9, 1923 at Alexandria, District 13, Wilson, TN. She was buried on January 10, 1923. The cause of death was paralysis which had been about 11 months duration. Parents are given as "unknown" by J H Gatton.

Nancy's parents have been claimed by several unsourced genealogies to have been Robert McKee (b. abt. 1790 VA) and Elizabeth Turner (b. abt. 1797 VA) [md. Oct 24, 1820 in Wilson, TN]; however there are no sources of proof given. It appears that Nancy's parents went out of TN, and Nancy's father died there. The whole family seems to be missing fron the US census in 1850, but in 1860, Nancy's supposed mother, Elizabeth [seemingly widowed], has returned to Wilson Co., TN with her children. The claim is that Robert died in 1852, and if Elizabeth had moved back to Wilson Co., TN immediately, she would have returned in time for her daughters to have married Joseph Gatton; Sophie in 1853, and Nancy in 1858. It is claimed that Robert McKee served in the War of 1812 and applied for a pension in 1851.

Nancy's husband, Joseph William Gatton, was born in abt. 1832 in NC, the son of Joseph (b. abt. 1788 in NC) and Elizabeth (MNU) (b. abt. 1787 in NC) Gatton/Gatten. He died between 1865-1870. He was first married to Sophie Jane McKee on January 19, 1853 in Wilson Co., TN. He married second to Sophie's sister[?], Nancy McKee, on August 2, 1858 in Wilson Co., TN.

There is an unsupported claim that Sophie (nee McKee) Gatton was born August 24, 1835 in Wilson Co., TN and died May 07, 1856 in Wilson Co., TN.
