"The cemetery is on private land. When I was there with Mother and Minnie Lee it was owned by H J Judkins. It has been sold, and I don't know who owns the land. A man at the Farm Bureau did own it, but I don't know his name. The farm was Thomas Durham Jr's and passed to his daughter, Jerusha Candace, and she was married to James Russell Tompkins. Martha Elizabeth Prudence inherited it, and she was married to John Berry Reeder. The land was sold after John's death. The farm was on Student's Home Road in the Keltonburg Community. All of Mother's first cousin was deceased. As far as I know, when I went in the late 70's that is the last time any family has been there. I do have pictures, and Thomas, Jr's house was still standing then. The house where my grandmother, Rachel, was born burned after the farm was sold. I wish I knew who owns the land ... Candy"

According to information supplied by John Mason, whose ancestors are also buried here, the cemetery is not on Students Home Road, but is on Pine Creek Falls Road in the same area. The scans of the original notes of Ruth Dietrich from her 1976 visit (see below) seem to refer to a route taking the path of: travel east on Keltonburg Road from the McMinnville-Smithville Highway (sign at this intersection says "Pates Ford" with arrow pointing east down Keltonburg Road), then from Keltonburg Road turn left north onto Students Home Road to then make a right turn (the first right) east onto Willis McGinniss Road, then left north onto Big Rock Road, then first right east onto Pine Creek Falls Road. This last road becomes a private farm and branches just before the field. Take the left branch heading north through the field in the direction toward the Falls almost to the house sitting on the right side of the road. You will have passed one building on the left side of the road near the Y and will be approaching a second building (barn) on the left. The cemetery is a square unplowed plot on the right just before the yard of the house. Because of age, cattle, etc., the cemetery might be in very bad shape now.

"The cemetery, known as the Durham Cemetery, is located off Pine Creek Falls Road north of the Keltonburg road (Hwy 288) in southern DeKalb County. I am enclosing two Google Earth maps to show the location."
"I visited the cemetery with my father in July 1973 and found the gravestone of my great-grandfather, John Francis Mason, along with several other relatives. The names include Durhams, Tompkins, Judkins, and other Masons. I recorded the information from 12 gravestones at that time."
"I visited again in March 1998 and found the cemetery in complete disarray with the gravestones turned over and cows wandering through the area. There were several large trees still there which may have prevented it from being plowed under."
"I visited again in August 2000, and most of the large trees were gone. Weeds hid most of the gravestones. At this time I found two posts and several metal poles that indicated someone had attempted to fence the space, but it had been torn down. I drew a map of the location of the graveyard when I visited; so I was able to find it on Google Earth. The last time I visited I had to go straight through a gate onto a dirt road that seemed to just go out into a field while the main road continued to the right."

I first visited this house and marker with Mama about 1950 and feel the marker may have been moved from the burial site. In fact I was surprised to find it standing. One day it will just disappear, I fear. It is in good condition.
