modern stone building
in downtown Newport was founded in 1925. A genealogy section,
created in the 1960's contains dozens of files crammed with data on
Cocke County families, schools, churches, businesses and
communities. Surnames are indexed here.

everything was destroyed in the Courthouse fire on December 29,
