JOHN HAMMONS. Updated detail: July 27, 1822. Campbell's wife left him in 1820 and went off with John Hammons, also of Cocke County, leaving also four small children. Campbell was "a man of moderate circumstances" and could not afford to get a divorce the usual way. He petitioned the General Assembly to grant him a divorce. THOMAS HILL testified that he knew that the wife was gone.
