Petition of WILLIAM CAMPBELL asking for a divorce from his wife, MARY CAMPBELL. Named in petition: JOHN HAMMONS.
Updated detail:   July 27, 1822. Campbell's wife left him in 1820 and went off with John Hammons, also of Cocke County, leaving also four small children. Campbell was "a man of moderate circumstances" and could not afford to get a divorce the usual way. He petitioned the General Assembly to grant him a divorce. THOMAS HILL testified that he knew that the wife was gone. Petition of DANIEL BUCKNER asking for a divorce from his wife, POLLY HAMPTON BUCKNER. Statement of BENJAMIN HOLLAND. (Eighteen supporting signatures.) Updated detail: September 27, 1826. Daniel Buckner married Polly Hampton. They lived in Cocke County some years, then moved to Missouri, where they dwelt until she left him for another man. He moved back to Cocke County. Persons signing petition, some of whom are members of the church where he is pastor: EDWARD SPENCER, JAS. CALLANGHAN, JAMES HOLLAND, ESQ., STEPHEN HUFF, JOSEPH HUFF, HENRY HOCUT, WILEY WINFREY, JAEMS NICHOLS, JESSEE BRIDGES, ISAAC BOYER SR, JACOB BOYER, MOSES FAUBION, JACOB SMITH, WILLIAM FAUVION, JOSIAH MARBURY, WM.
