Large boards placed in the center of the room usually show temporary special exhibits. One special exhibit was a quilt contest and show in October 1997 to celebrate Cocke County's Bicentennial. Eighty-seven quilts, from nineteenth century to modern, were entered in the contest. The museum has several beautiful quilts in its permanent collection.
