my GGG Grandfthr, Allen White came to Haywood county before 1840. He was in that census and appears in land deals in old deed books as far back as Feb 6, 1837 when he bought 51 acres from Alexander Henry. He lived with his daughter Elleanor, who had married a William Rhodes and appears in the 1870 census as 83 years old, living with that family. He came from Bertie county, N.C. and had 9 children by his first wife Elizabeth, including my GG Grandfather, Peter Doss White, who fought in the 47th TN Inf in the civil war.. He may have married again to a Mary Polly Clark.
