William Wilburn Dodds was my grand-father.

Do you ever make it to the Dodds Family Reunion that is held annually in Booneville, MS? Do you by chance know what Nancy’s maiden name was? I have heard Thompson, but I can not confirm that. If Will was your grandfather, then you know that his mother, Alice King Dodds was Zachariah Benjamin Dodds’ first wife. After her death, he married again, and her name was Allice McCarter. With him marrying two women with the same first name, it was difficult for me to find out which Alice was my ggrandmother.

  • So William Wilburn, was my g uncle that I loved dearly. He died in the Spring o 1979, Lived in the Thrasher Community of Prentiss County, MS. Do you know any information beyond James and Nancy? This is where I hit a wall and cannot go back any further. Do you know where James and Nancy are buried.. I knew Inez, Hazel, and most of the boys of Uncle Will. Who Is/was your mother?
Hope to hear from you soon.

      • Hazel and my father, Floyd Dodds were 1st cousins. R.C. Dodds, my grandfather, and Uncle Will were brothers. Still cannot go back any further than Nancy and J.W. Dodds. Do you have any information?

Janice, nice to meet a distance cousin….I myself have reach a dead end as I found out that J.W. was a blacksmith in Chester Creek. I did see on a 1880 census that Nancy was a widower at that time, so I haven’t been able to find out anything else. I’m still in research mode, I’ll let you know if I find anything.

Yes, I saw that. JW was alive during the 1860 and 1870 census, but dead by the 1880. I even went in Ancestry and tried to find his death by entering all the dates in the 1870’s. I didn’t think to search for his death in 1880, he could have died the year the census was taken. I will go back and try to see if I can get any information on that. Your sister, or first cousin and I, Glo, (Gloria), went to school together when she attended NEMCC in Booneville. Must have been 1986 or so. I haven’t seen or heard from her since then. Great communication wilth you.

Glo and I are 1st. cousin’s, I haven’t seen her in years. I believe she lives in NW Arkansas. I ‘ve gone back into Chester County’s history and have come across many Dodds in the Jack’s Creek area and Henderson county cemeteries. There appears to be a James Dodds that came from NC and settled there in the early 1800’s, but not the JW Dodds I think ???
