COLLINS, Owen (#163). When Received: Jany 17, 1835; Crime: Assault with intent to Kill, From what County: Claibourne (sic); Age: 45; Occupation: Labourer; Sentence: 3 years; Where Born: N. Carolina; When discharged: Sept. 19, 1836; By what Authority: Died of Chronic Diarrhea. Owen COLLINS was rec'd in the Penitentiary On the Seventeenth day of January One thousand eight hundred And thirty five. He is forty five Years Old, Six feet one inch high & weighs One hundred & fifty pounds. Dark Hair, Blue eyes, Dark Skin & slender Made. A slender Scar running from the Crown of his head to the top of his forehead, about 4 inches in length; two scars nearly together on the inside of his left thigh just above the knee; a scar on the Second joint of the right thumb, and One on the Ball of the left thumb. His Mother, wife, (who was the Daughter of Lewis COLLINS) & eight [children?] are all living near Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tenn. He was born in Guilford County, N. Carolina but brought up in the above named County in Tenn. Has chiefly followed farming. Was found guilty of Assault & battery with intent to Kill at the Circuit Court of Claiborne County & Sentenced to three years Confinement in the Jail & Penitentiary House of the State of Tennessee. Owen COLLINS died of Chronic Diarrhea Sept 19th 1837.
