Entered as John Smiday private. Boston, KY on March 10, 1862 (March 24, 1862) Honorably discharged at Nashville March 24, 1865 Commander Arehavle Myers, and Joseph A. Cooper.

Disability: Gunshot wound of right thigh, battle near Kennesaw Mountains, GA. Several months hospital at Chattanooga, Nashville, and Knoxville, TN. After wound Guard duty at Hospital. Entered as John Smiday in Hospital. Absent wounded: return July 1864. Wounded since May 14, 1864. In 1924 disability listed as: Scatis Rheumatism, Catarrh of head, and severe heart trouble, requires constant attendance at this time. Other service Brownlow's Milita.

Parents: Calvin Smiddy and Betty Smiddy (John's parents are illiterate so there are no records.)
Brothers & sisters: John, James, Liza, Milton (died), Benjamin, Ruben, and Malindia Smiddy. All born before 1850 except Malindia. (I question before 1850?)(These names match what my great grandmother told me.) Their Mother died about 1859-1860.
Lived 1850-1860 at or near Jacksboro, TN. Other places: Carryville, Elk Valley, and Pleasant View, KY.
John was born: Dec 20, 1843 in Elkfork now Elk Valley, Campbell County, TN
John's Wife: Annie Kesterson Married: April 22, 1875 by W.C. Warnack J.P. in Jacksboro, TN
Previous Marriage by John: Yes Both former wife's dead. No children.

John is 5 ft. 11 in Tall. Complexion is Fair. Blue Eyes. Black hair. Listed as Farmer and Preacher (1924).
He died Nov 25, 1926.
