TNGenWeb & 1940 Census – 1st Month Update

I could not have predicted how exciting it has been to contribute to the 1940 Census indexing initiative this past month!  Back in mid-March I announced that we were going to have a TNGenWeb group working together on it and the outcomes so far have been outstanding.

As of April 30th, 2012, just shy of 1 full month after the images were released by the National Archives & Records Administration, our TNGenWeb group has 37 indexers and we have indexed and/or arbitrated more than 66,000 records!

Amazing work everyone! Let’s keep it up! Pparticularly since right now, Tennessee is only 8% done.

If you’d like to join us as we continue to index records, please follow the directions here.  We would definitely welcome you aboard! I’ll be discussing some of our work in the TNGenWeb in a webinar tonight with DearMyrtle about the 1st month of the indexing initiative. We hope you can listen in; more details at the DearMyrtle Blog.  To keep track of how the indexing is going overall, visit FamilySearch’s interactive map.
