Obituary of Helen Nadine Heatherly Stephens, 2002:

Helen Nadine Heatherly Stephens, age 76, of Clinton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born July 26, 1925 in Campbell County on the Powell River.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Stephens was surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church. She retired in 1984 after 32 years of teaching in the Campbell and Anderson County school systems. She was a graduate of Jacksboro and Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

Mrs. Stephens was a member of Clinch Bend Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, a founding member of the Lucinda Heatherly Tent Daughter of Union Veterans; member of Pellissippi Genealogical Society and Anderson County Historical Society and Campbell County Historical Society and the Anderson County Retired Teachers Association.

Preceded in death by parents, Brice and Emmaline Heatherly and a cousin who was raised as a brother, Harold Spangler.

Survivors: husband of 41 years A.M. Stephens of Clinton; sons, Joseph and John Stephens both of Clinton; sisters, Sue Miller and husband Albert of LaFollette and Bobbie Kirkpatrick and husband Clarence “Kirk” of Mt. Juliet; brothers, Evan Heatherly and wife Oma of Bon Aqua and Jock Heatherly and wife Tennie of LaFollette; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and other relatives.

The family received friends 6-8 pm Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8 pm in the chapel with Dr. Paul Frick officiating.

Interment was held 11 am Friday at Bakers Forge Memorial Cemetery in Campbell County. Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center Building Fund at Clinton First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 268, Clinton, Tenn., 37716.
