Obituary of Tom Ulysses Sawyer, 2000:

Tom Ulysses Sawyer, age 88, of Clinton, passed away Friday, April 14, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville.

He was a member of Hillvale Baptist Church. He retired from Norris Creamery as a truck driver.

He was born March 20, 1912 in Cocke County.

Preceded in death by: parents, William and Sara Jane Solemon Sawyer; son, James Sawyer.

Survivors: wife, Edna Walker Sawyer of Clinton; daughter, Ada and Bill Woods of Clinton; sons, Ralph and Sue Sawyer of Clinton, Lloyd and Phyllis Sawyer of Nashville, Billy and Mary Ruth Sawyer of Clinton, Howard Sawyer of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Wanda Sawyer of Clinton; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 4-7 pm Sunday, April 16, 2000 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 7 pm in the chapel with the Rev. Clifford Fraker and the Rev. Calvin Braden officiating.

Interment will be held 10:30 am Monday, April 17, 2000, at Norris Memorial Gardens.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of arrangements.
