The Lake City Library is a full-service level library that offers public-access computers with internet access, free Wi-Fi, and copy and fax service.  The library has a dedicated genealogy and local history section which concentrates on Anderson County and six of its surrounding counties – Campbell, Claiborne, Morgan, Roane, Scott and Union.  In 2006 this collection was updated to include all material on these counties then in print and an addition of more than 80 volumes was donated.  Also in 2006 the library began maintaining an obituary file and a file of clippings from The Town Crier, a Lake City newspaper in print during the late 20th century.  These two files are not indexed, but are available to researchers.  The library also houses the Stright-Hill Genealogy Collection, a vertical file collection of information on families mainly from Anderson County.  However, information on other East Tennessee families is included.

The Lake City Library maintains a subscription to Ancestry.com which is available free to library patrons.  You must come into the library to use this service.

Since most of its non-circulating material is not included in its online catalog, a visit to Lake City Library is necessary to determine exactly what titles are in its collection.
